Rachelle: From losing her financial services job to becoming the nurse her heart longed to be and living the life she was born to live.
Rachelle struggled to prove her worth to the financial services company she worked for, owned by none other than her older brother. She lost her job when her brother told her that she was not performing at the level she needed to, and he hired a coach, none other than myself, to help her find her calling. When Rachelle first came to see me, she was understandably angry and devastated that she’d lost her job. She wanted to do everything she possibly could to get her old job back and prove to her brother that she really is a “good” financial services employee. I took one look at Rachelle and my heart’s voice said, “Her greatest gift is to care for and nurture others.”
I told Rachelle that at the end of our coaching program, she would realize that her job loss is the best thing that ever happened to her and that she’d know herself like never before.
Over the course of The Heart's Way™, Rachelle learned that her heart is longing to live a simple life. Her family and friendships come before work. She wants to get married, have a family of her own and is returning to nursing school to complete her degree. Her purpose is to care for and nurture her family, her friends, and her patients/clients. Rachelle is clear that she wants a balanced work-life schedule, and longs to work three-day work weeks, which nurses naturally do.
As Rachelle walked The Heart's Way™ path, she experienced many obstacles, like her brother saying that he was disappointed in the outcome of the expensive coaching sessions. He wanted her to get a “real job”. He also threatened on a regular basis to stop paying her the severance money he committed to. Another obstacle was Rachelle’s fear of financial ruin if she returned to school. I’m so proud that she stayed the course, despite these challenges, and completed The Heart's Way™ program. In our first meeting, she discovered her heart was longing to return to nursing school and wrote the intention that she could do so without incurring more student loan debt.
After taking conscious action to apply to traditional nursing schools, a nursing school approached Rachelle and offered her a program where she would get her education for free and be gainfully employed as a nurse for at least three years after she completed the program. She could not believe that this miracle occurred. What I have noticed is that when someone is following their passionate calling, opportunities come to them. They no longer have to chase after opportunities. Life becomes easier and challenges are faced with greater ease.
After receiving her nursing degree, Rachelle looks forward to either becoming or volunteering as a donor organ coordinator. After losing her younger brother, she wishes to help those who are faced with the difficult decision of whether to donate a loved one’s organs at the emotional time of their death. Whenever I speak with Rachelle, she’s so happy. She discovered what is most important to her, at the very young age of 26.
Sandy: from retired flight attendant to personal organizer, happy grandmother, and amazing enjoyer of life!
At 65, Sandy spent most of her life working hard to support her children as a single mother and flight attendant. Her life was about serving others, and she lost herself in the process. She had just retired as a flight attendant when she started The Heart's Way™. The program helped Sandy define the life she really wanted to live.
When she truly searched her heart, she realized that organizing is a passion she has. When she’s organizing her home or friend’s home, she loses track of time. Her work feels like play. She also enjoys spending time with her grandchildren, and attending classes to learn new things.
Sandy is so excited to make her own schedule, which allows frequent trips to see her grandchildren in Colorado (from Arizona). She was worried about retiring and being bored. Sandy feels more alive than ever as she loves her work, loves her life, and her daughter is so grateful for her mother being so happy and present. Sandy balances her work and play for organizing with living her life.
Her daughter’s husband almost died two years ago, and Sandy was able to help babysit her grandchild and be there for her daughter and son-in-law for two months.
Mary: From miserable lawyer to amazing City Court Judge and happy mom and wife
When Mary started The Heart's Way™ she was miserable being a lawyer, but felt obligated to stay in a job she hated because she was the primary breadwinner of the family. During the program, Mary deeply connected with her passionate calling to promote fairness and justice in our society. You would think that being a lawyer was a perfect way for her to express her calling and yet she did not feel aligned with the values of her firm. Her head told her she was irresponsible for even thinking about leaving a secure job and jeopardizing the financial security of her family. Her main block was her inner critic who was so loud and we nicknamed her “The Judge”.
I said to Mary, “You’re so judging and critical of yourself. Do you see a way of using your inner critic for great use in the outer world?” Suddenly she broke into tears and said, “I’ve always wanted to be a judge!” You know you’ve hit what you came here to do when you experience tears, or for those of us “recovering intellectuals” get a slight feeling that a tear might be possible. This is often the voice of the heart and soul.
Mary’s spouse agreed that she could quit her job and take a part-time job as an administrative law judge. Mary loved being a judge. She was so happy. We have all heard the saying “do what you love and the money will follow”. Well, Mary loved what she did so much that one day she came across a job opening for a city court judge. She called me and said there was no way that she could possibly get the job, as 300 people had already applied, and the only ones getting interviews had political connections. I stopped her in her tracks, and said, “I wonder how many are doing it because they know with all their heart and soul that this is what they were born to do? You, my dear friend, have connected with this at such a deep heart level; you have something the others may not.”
Mary was so courageous; she applied for the job. Not only did she make it to the interview without political connections, she got the job. When we align with our passionate calling opportunities and doors open easily because we are choosing to be who we came here to be and do what we came here to do.
I remember attending Mary’s swearing-in party. I couldn’t hold back my tears of happiness, as it’s my passionate calling to connect others with theirs. Besides seeing my son and husband’s happiness, there’s no greater bliss than to see a client find, live and do their passionate calling in service to humanity. Her inner critic gave her some trouble in the start up phase, as she was new and learning day by day. Within three months, her co-workers were saying, “she’s a natural”, and they felt as though she had been with them for years. To say she loves her work is an understatement. Her spouse continually says “Thank You, God”, as Mary has never been happier and their three children have their mother back.
Rob: From executive to successful entrepreneur and helping children with pediatric cancer
When Rob started The Heart's Way™, he was a successful sales executive making great money in Philadelphia. There was only one problem: he hated his job. His wife had a good job but he felt irresponsible and scared to leave a great-paying job that he could do in his sleep, even though it was passionless. Rob decided to start a marketing communications company that offers a suite of branding, design and production services. He left his job and shortly after that, he got a big contract. He was finally doing work he was passionate about.
Around the same time, Rob had a devastating personal crisis occur when his only child, Reagan, was diagnosed with leukemia. Walking The Heart's Way™ path is not always blissful. Challenges lie along the path. Having had my son in and out of hospitals the first three years of his life with severe asthma, I couldn’t even imagine what Rob and his family had to walk through for over two years as Reagan received treatment. He managed to keep his business afloat during this stressful time.
One day prior to Reagan’s intense chemotherapy treatment, Rob watched her paint a ceramic piggy bank, and saw how much it calmed her. He got the idea for starting a public charity called “Adopt a Pig”, designed to provide coping mechanisms to children fighting cancer and their families. Adopt a Pig has already been featured on ESPN, with a special appearance by Bon Jovi. Rob always said he had a huge ego, and found it difficult to give and serve others until now. He wants nothing in return for his efforts in leading Adopt A Pig. It’s his great pleasure to provide this service to humanity; he even personally hand delivers piggy banks to hospitals.
Reagan recovered from her first round of leukemia, and, having walked that challenging path, Rob wants to help other families cope with this emotional and physical battle. After two years of Reagan being in remission, Rob received the awful news that her cancer had returned and would require another two years of treatment. My heart breaks even as I type these words. Rob, his wife Vicki, and Reagan remain my heroes and inspiration. Please pray for them, as Regan’s treatment just started two months ago. May Rob and his family walk through this latest challenge with great love, grace and courage.
Kim: Pharmaceutical Professional who stayed in the same job with a brand new attitude
I had worked in the company Kim works for as a consultant, so Kim knew me. When she first called, she said she was miserable, and was 95% sure that she wanted to leave her job. She really loves her husband and their lifestyle, which includes a lot of sailing, and yet was miserable coming to work where she spent at least 60 hours a week. I promised her she would have her answer as to whether to stay or leave her current job and company by the end of the coaching program.
As she courageously walked The Heart's Way™ path, she connected with a deep passion for organizational development. She didn’t see that her job allowed her to do organizational development. I pointed out that she was often asked to make large organizational changes in the company and was often referred to as their change agent. Not only did her job allow for her to do organization development, it required it.
Kim started to get excited about her current job and decided to return to graduate school (an evening and weekend program) to get her Masters in Organization Development. The action and reframing of her attitude around her job and the ability to practice what she was learning in school helped Kim find a renewed passion for her work. Her distaste for going into the office transformed into excitement and an “I can’t wait to go to work” attitude!
